Checking In & Out
Check-In is available after 4:00 p.m. Upon arrival at the hotel, please present your luggage claim stubs that you received at the ferry dock to the innkeeper. For those arriving on Mackinac Island early, your luggage is securely stored until you have checked into your room. For those requesting check-in before 4:00 p.m., please have it noted on your reservation prior to your arrival. We will make every attempt to have your room available at the requested time however due to reasons beyond our control we cannot guarantee special requests.
To allow preparation for incoming guests, all rooms must be vacated by 11:00 a.m. When checking your luggage for transportation, the innkeeper will need to know if you are riding with Shepler’s or Star Line to Mackinaw City or St. Ignace, as well as your desired ferry departure time. Please check your bags no less than one hour prior to your desired ferry departure time. For maximum efficiency, luggage is pre-shipped to the dock. Rain or shine, ferry lines will secure your luggage until your arrival on the mainland. Upon exiting the ferry on the mainland, advance to the luggage tent with your claim tags. You may wish to retrieve your vehicle first.
Spend like cash rewards are earned through the 906 Rewards Club.
Mackinac Island is located between the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan.
As cars are not permitted on Mackinac Island, you must leave your car at the ferry docks in either Mackinaw City or St. Ignace.
It’s a good idea to check the ferry departure times online before you leave home. Plan to arrive at the ferry dock no less than 30 minutes prior to your desired scheduled ferry departure. Ferry departure times vary throughout the season becoming more frequent during the peak of the summer season in July & August. You may choose to leave from the Lower Peninsula at the Mackinaw City dock or St. Ignace in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Mackinaw City offers more frequent and later departure times. St. Ignace is less congested and generally has open parking. Departures from Star Line’s Mackinaw City dock will land at the closest dock to Pine Cottage.
Upon arriving at the ferry dock look for overnight parking services. Here you will arrange for vehicle parking and have any luggage that you wish to be transported tagged and loaded onto the ferry for you. Complimentary baggage handling from the dock to dock is provided by the ferry service. Please be sure that all checked items are zipped or sealed to prevent items from falling out. Luggage is transported by multiple services; we cannot assume responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged luggage or its contents. When packing your luggage, keep in mind that it too is traveling, to prevent items from falling out, use bags with zipper or latch closures. Plan to hand-carry electronics, chargers, medications, medical equipment, car keys, anything fragile, valuable or irreplaceable. Double-check that you have received your luggage tag stubs before leaving your luggage.
Once you arrive on Mackinac Island, an Island House Hotel porter will take your luggage and direct you to the hotel. Luggage transfer times to the hotel vary, if you will be needing something right away it is best for you to transport it along with anything you consider fragile, valuable, or irreplaceable.
Guest transportation to and from the hotel is not included in your nightly rate. You may walk, bike or take a horse-drawn taxi to the hotel. Taxi reservations are required 30-60 minutes in advance by calling 906-847-3323. Mackinac Island Taxi
